St. Mary's College Engagement Session

Sarah and Mary met in college and fell for one another quickly. They were known as a power couple on campus back then, so when it came time for their engagement session, it made sense that we returned to their alma mater, St. Mary’s College, for their engagement photos!

St. Mary’s College

Saint Mary's College is a private Catholic women's liberal arts college in Notre Dame, Indiana. Just a few miles from South Bend, this beautiful campus is home to lush green spaces, spacious classrooms, and lovely residence halls all tucked into a gorgeous wooded area down a private drive. The college is home to a close-knit student community of roughly 1,600, with a 178-year history of empowering strong, well-rounded women who excel in their chosen fields

A campus love story

You may not think that a Catholic school would be an easy place for young, queer women to be themselves, but Sarah and Mary fell in love on St. Mary’s gorgeous campus, and are so proud of the supportive, loving community there. For their engagement session, we visited all their favorite spots, some traditional St. Mary’s College classic architecture and traditions, and the dorm where they first met. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing the weddings of several St. Mary’s “Belles” over the years, and they are all such an incredible people to be around, with a real focus on building up and supporting their own communities! Heading into the building where Sarah and Mary first fell in love was like walking right through their history! We spoke in hushed tones and snuck around corners so as not to interrupt student life, but even in the quiet moments I couldn’t help but feel like I was stepping back in time with these two, right back to the very beginning, complete with stolen kisses in the hallway and snuggles on the common space couches.

It’s said that when you cross this bridge with your sweetheart, you’re sealed into forever together! I love these campus traditions and superstitions, and loved the way this lucky bridge looks over the beautiful St. Mary’s College campus, which is so stunning in all seasons!
